10 Best Refrigerators In India 2021
Large appliances like refrigerators are a once-in-a-decade purchase for most Indian homes. So, how do we choose the one right for our needs?
Well, there is no one-size-fits-all solution as the needs of each family differs from the other. Even so, the first aspect to decide upon is capacity.
Your present refrigerator size could be a good starting point. But if you expect a major change in the family within the next decade like marriage, birth etc, account for it while deciding the capacity needed. Ideally, your refrigerator should always have at least 30% free space to allow proper airflow and not overload the compressor.
The next aspect to look at is the compressor. Newer models mostly come with inverter compressors which can adjust their speed depending on food load, external temperature and other factors. Each brand gives a different name to it, but its functionality is more or less the same.
Its predecessor- the reciprocatory compressor is a bit outdated and is not as efficient as an inverter compressor. But, as it costs low, it is found in budget-friendly refrigerators. Brands like LG and Samsung however don’t use reciprocatory compressors in any of their models. If you would like to know more about compressors, you can check our guide here.
Maintaining a cool temperature alone is not enough to preserve fresh produce for a longer duration. More importantly, fruits and vegetables need the right moisture level to thrive.
So, choose a refrigerator that has a humidity controller vent in the vegetable crisper. Or better yet, choose a refrigerator with dual evaporators that has independent cooling in the fridge and freezer compartment.
When considering the format, double door refrigerators have their own advantages. Compared to a single door refrigerator, it costs higher. But the convenience is worth it. You don’t have to worry about defrosting it frequently and the freezer is spacious too.
Side-by-side refrigerators come on the other end of the spectrum with a massive freezer. Unless you stock a lot of frozen food, fish, meat and ice cream, you would be better off buying a double door refrigerator of comparable capacity.
While these three factors are significant, it is imperative that you fix a budget too in advance. If you would like to know more about the important aspects to consider while buying a refrigerator, take a look at our detailed buyers’ guide at the end of the article. Else, here is our quick overview of the best refrigerators, followed by a detailed review.
If you are looking for a single door refrigerator for 2-3 members, you could take a look at the LG GL-D201ARGY ( skip to details) with 190 litres capacity. It has a smart inverter compressor that provides better and consistent cooling; moist n fresh vegetable crisper that keeps fresh produce at optimal humidity and has a 4-star energy rating too, which means lower cost of operation

Best Refrigerators In India
LG 260 L 3 Star Frost Free Double Door Refrigerator (GL-I292RPZL, Shiny Steel, Smart Inverter Compressor)
- Optimal energy and cooling efficiency
- Minimum temperature variance inside the refrigerator
- Extra storage space for vegetables like onion and potato
- Delay in installation and delivery reported by many.
LG GL-I292RPZL with 260-litre capacity is apt for a family with 3-4 members. It has a fairly spacious freezer, humidity control vents in the crisper and ample space for large water bottles.
The refrigerator uses a smart inverter compressor and has multiple airflow vents in the compartments to ensure a consistent temperature. It has a deodorizer and the airtight gasket prevents fungus and bacteria from entering the refrigerator.
The fridge and freezer has 183 litres and 77 litres capacity respectively. Its freezer is larger than the Samsung RT28A3453S8/HL (69 litres) which we discuss next in the list.
The interiors are basic. You can keep 2-3 two-litre bottles in the middle rack on the door. The vegetable box has a moisture control vent to maintain the right level of humidity. And it is large enough to store 1 week worth of vegetables for a family.
The refrigerator has a door alarm that rings when the door is open for a minute or more and a door lock too.
A drawback we felt about the interiors is that the shelves are not height adjustable. This however won’t be a major cause of concern for most families.
Talking about energy efficiency, it has a 3-star energy rating and consumes just 194 units of electricity annually.
The refrigerator doesn’t need an external stabilizer if the voltage fluctuation remains within the range of 100-310 Volts.
It can run on solar energy and can also work on a home inverter when there is a power failure. If there is no inverter connection, the cool pad in the freezer maintains the cool temperature for up to 9 hours in case of power disruption.
Compared to the next refrigerator on the list, Samsung RT28A3453S8/HL, LG is more expensive and its interiors are too basic. But that it has a moisture control vent that preserves fresh food for longer is a positive.
- Digital inverter compressor ensures optimal cooling, high energy efficiency and durability.
- Movable shelf and ice tray gives better flexibility
- Has dedicated space for dairy and deli products
- No child lock
- The fresh room takes space of a shelf, which could be a disadvantage.
Samsung RT28A3453S8/HL is more competitively priced compared to the previous LG refrigerator. And we liked that the refrigerator was designed keeping in mind the user’s convenience.
The refrigerator uses a digital inverter compressor which maintains a consistent cool temperature all the while reducing electricity consumption.
While the former LG refrigerator has its temperature control knob behind the shelves, this Samsung refrigerator has a digital control panel on the door. You can set the temperature in the fridge compartment between 1-7 degree Celsius. Also you get a Power Cool function that quickly chills the fridge and freezer compartment.
The fridge compartment has a capacity of 184 litres and the freezer 69 litres.
As mentioned, the unit is designed keeping in mind the user’s convenience. The ice tray in the freezer is moveable. In the fridge compartment, you have a fresh zone at the top where you can keep temperature-sensitive food like dairy, deli products. The easy-slide shelf underneath is also helpful as you can keep and take out larger items with ease.
Yet another noteworthy aspect is that you can keep 3-4 large bottles at the top shelf on the door.
The refrigerator has a deodorizing filter. But the vegetable box doesn’t have a humidity controller or any such feature.
Talking about energy efficiency, the refrigerator consumes 195 units of electricity and has a 3-star energy rating.
You can connect it to the home inverter and if the voltage fluctuation at your place is moderate within the limit of 100-290 Volts, you don’t have to invest in a stabilizer.
The budget friendly pricing does make it an attractive deal over the previous option from LG.
A variant of this Samsung refrigerator comes under the Curd Maestro series which makes thick/soft curd as per your needs. So, if you are someone who just can’t get curd making right in the conventional method, you can consider this refrigerator.
Samsung 324L 3 Star Inverter Frost Free Double Door Refrigerator (RT34T4513S8/HL, Elegant Inox, Convertible)
- Convertible refrigerator gives flexibility in managing space.
- Excellent cooling and fairly good energy efficiency
- Can cool quickly with power cool and power freeze technology
- No lock
Samsung RT34T4513S8/HL is an option suitable for those who have varying capacity needs with their refrigerator. Probably people who travel often, hold parties often or stop fish and meat frequently making the freezer a redundant space. You get the idea…
It has a dual evaporator that enables independent cooling in the fridge and freezer compartment. In fact, this is the only refrigerator in the segment with a dual evaporator.
Just like every other Samsung refrigerator, it is equipped with a digital inverter compressor.
The dual evaporators and efficient compressor works together to prolong the life of fresh produce and maintain an optimal temperature in each compartment. The dual evaporator also prevents odour mixing.
Using the digital panel on the refrigerator door, you can set the temperature of each compartment and invoke the 5 convertible modes. It also has Power Freeze and Power Cool function which reduces the temperature to make ice and cold water 31% faster.
Now talking about the different modes, they are- Normal, Seasonal mode where the freezer is idle; Vacation mode where the fridge is idle; Extra Fridge mode where the freezer is converted to fridge; and Home Alone mode where the fridge is idle.
The capacity of the refrigerator is 324 litres. The fridge has a gross capacity of 236 litres, while the freezer has a gross capacity of 88 litres.
The refrigerator has four main toughened glass shelves and 3 door shelves include one with a big bottle guard.
Some users complain that Samsung could have kept an additional door shelf at the bottom. But this means you will have to open the door more than 90 degrees to completely pull out the vegetable box. And that may not be an ideal design for a modular kitchen or when the fridge is placed at a corner near the wall.
The refrigerator has 209 units average annual energy consumption and has 3 star energy rating. But depending on the mode you predominantly use, it may vary.
Just like LG, it has a door alarm, which is also positive. Other than that it doesn’t have a lock, you can’t really find any fault with this refrigerator. The price is also competitive.
Though other refrigerators from LG and Whirlpool have convertible features, it is limited to converting a freezer into fridge or putting it on idle. So, the versatility of Samsung is definitely an advantage.
- Excellent space management.
- Quick cooling.
- Microblock and ActiFresh technology keep vegetables fresher for longer.
- Uses conventional reciprocatory compressor which results in higher temperature variance.
- No lighting in the freezer/ vegetable box.
The biggest advantage of Whirlpool Protton refrigerators is that it minimizes the cold air escaping outside as doors to each section can be individually open and shut.
Unlike the previous LG and Samsung, Whirlpool uses a reciprocatory compressor. This means the compressor switches itself off when it has cooled the compartments to a preset level. Then when the thermostat detects a rise in temperature to a particular level, it signals to restart the compressor. A reciprocatory compressor generally doesn’t have the energy and cooling efficiency of an inverter compressor.
A positive however is that Whirlpool offers a 10-year warranty on the compressor, so you can be fairly assured of its durability.
Whirlpool has incorporated a few features in order to enhance the life of vegetables stored. It features a new 6th sense ActiFresh Technology whereby the cold air flows around the compartment which is made out of Microblock—an anti-microbial additive. This technology helps retain moisture, prevents microbial formation and thus increases the life of vegetables and fruits significantly. The refrigerator section also has air boosters to ensure uniform cooling.
The refrigerator is divided into a 223-litre fridge compartment and a 73-litre freezer.
In the mid fridge compartment, the top section is a deli compartment that has an enclosure. This ensures minimal temperature variation in the zone when you open or close the main door.
The vegetable drawer is large. But it tends to be quite humid and may encourage fungal growth if you don’t properly store the veggies.
Being a triple door refrigerator, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency doesn’t give it an energy rating. The manufacturers however claim that it consumes less energy than a 60 watt CFL.
You can read a detailed review of Whirlpool Protton refrigerators here.
LG 190 L 4 Star Inverter Direct-Cool Single Door Refrigerator (GL-D201ARGY, Ruby Glow, Base Stand with drawer)
- Optimal energy and cooling efficiency
- Minimum temperature variance inside the refrigerator
- Extra storage space for vegetables like onion and potato
- Delay in installation and delivery reported by many.
LG GL-D201ARGY with 190 litre capacity is an apt choice for bachelors or family with 2-3 members. As it has a dry storage area at the base, it is suitable for those who have space constraints- especially those who live in studio apartments.
The refrigerator uses a smart inverter compressor. So, the cooling efficiency is optimal and the durability is certain. Being a direct cool refrigerator, you will have to defrost frequently ( depending on the extent of usage)
It has 190 litre capacity including a 12.2-litre vegetable crisper. The freezer has a 22-litre capacity, while the fridge has a 168-litre capacity.
Inside, the refrigerator has a fast freezing zone for frozen food and also has a cool and fresh zone for keeping milk and desserts.
A notable feature of this refrigerator is that it has a base drawer. This not only gives the refrigerator an attractive look by hiding its legs but also proves to be a utilitarian space for keeping vegetables like onion and potato, which doesn’t require refrigeration. Nowadays, you can find this base drawer in single door refrigerators from Whirlpool and Samsung as well and they are all similar in design.
With a four-star energy rating consuming just 130 units of electricity annually, the refrigerator is quite energy efficient. It can be run on solar energy and can be connected to your home inverter too.
Also, you don’t need to buy a stabilizer for the fridge if the voltage fluctuation in your home is between 90 to 310 Volts.
Samsung 198 L 5 Star Inverter Direct-Cool Single Door Refrigerator (RR21T2H2WCB/HL, Camellia Black, Base Stand with Drawer)
- Best in class energy rating.
- Comparatively higher fridge capacity.
- Extra storage space for vegetables like onion and potato
- No special features in the vegetable crisper.
The distinguishing aspect of this refrigerator is that it has 5-star energy efficiency. But don’t fall for it just because of the rating because the annual energy consumption of this refrigerator is 104 units. The former LG refrigerator has an annual energy consumption of 130 units. So, the difference of 26 units will save you a maximum of Rs. 229 per year( considering the maximum per-unit cost of Rs. 8.80 in Maharashtra).
That being said, the refrigerator does have some useful features that makes it an option worth considering.
Just like other Samsung refrigerators, it uses a Digital Inverter Compressor. Being a direct cool refrigerator, you will have to defrost it at a frequent interval.
Size wise, it is a tad larger than the former LG single door refrigerator. It has 198 litre capacity with 174 litre fridge and 24 litre freezer. This makes the fridge larger by 6 litres compared to LG.
The interior, however, is quite basic. Unlike LG, it doesn’t have a moisture-controlled vegetable box either. Just like LG, it also has a dry storage rack at the bottom to keep vegetables that don’t require refrigeration.
It can work without a stabilizer if the voltage range is within 100-300 Volts, connect to the home inverter and work on solar energy.
The exterior appearance looks better. The capacity is marginally higher. And the cost is approx. Rs. 1000 more than the previous LG.
- Fairly good cooling.
- Very competitive pricing
- Moisture control slider helps to keep vegetables fresher for longer.
- Comparatively higher temperature variance owing to reciprocatory compressor
- Wired shelf racks are not aesthetically pleasing.
Whirlpool WDE 205 CLS is one of the basic refrigerators available in the market. It is competitively priced too.
The refrigerator, as you can expect, is basic. The manufacturers seem to have cut costs by including outdated wired shelves.
The refrigerator uses reciprocatory compressor, while other single door refrigerator mentioned in the list uses an inverter compressor. But, it doesn’t seem to have compromised on the very basic function- cooling.
The insulated capillary technology helps cool the refrigerator with good efficiency. It also keeps the refrigerator at a cold temperature for upto 9 hours after a power failure.
The gross capacity of the refrigerator is 190 litres, with fridge having 158 litres and freezer having 24 litres net capacity.
Though the wired shelves look outdated, other components inside don’t look that bad. The top shelf is a quick chill area for dairy and the vegetable box has a humidity controller vent. The bottle rack is large enough to fit 3 two-litre bottles too.
Talking about the energy efficiency, the unit has 3 star energy rating and consumes 168 units of electricity, which is significantly higher than the previous LG and Samsung models.
But its selling point seems to be the pricing as it is very competitive. It sells about Rs. 4000 lesser than the previous models. The nearby competitor would be the Haier HED-20CFDS ( Amazon link), which sells at approx. Rs. 1k higher, but with a slightly larger space and higher energy efficiency.
LG 687 L Frost Free Side-by-Side Refrigerator(GC-B247SLUV.APZQEBN, Platinum Silver, Inverter Compressor)
- Linear inverter compressor ensures best in class energy efficiency, reduced noise and better cooling.
- Excellent value for money
- Exteriors are susceptible to scratches.
A side-by-side refrigerator should be bought after careful consideration because almost 40% of its capacity goes to the freezer. So, unless you freeze a lot of food, we would suggest you to buy a double door refrigerator of lesser or comparable capacity.
This LG GC-B247SLUV.APZQEBN is equipped with Inverter Linear Compressor (ILC), which is more advanced than LG’s smart inverter compressor. ILC makes lesser noise, has better cooling efficiency, lesser energy consumption and is more durable. In the West, there was a case of ILCs breaking down within 2 years sometime back. But it was resolved by 2019.
The gross capacity of the refrigerator is 687 litres. This is divided with the fridge compartment having 422-litre capacity and the freezer having 265 litres of space.
The refrigerator has ample vents along the back to ensure thorough cooling. There are two crispers in the fridge that have different humidity levels to store vegetables and fruits respectively. There is an enclosed dairy corner to keep temperature-sensitive items too.
The freezer has a twist ice tray. It doesn’t have an ice or water dispenser at the door like many other side-by-side refrigerators in the market.
Using the front panel, you can set the temperature and also invoke power cooling feature. Being Wi-fi enabled, you can do this set up through your mobile too. As with all LG appliances, it has a Smart Diagnosis feature that gives error codes to quickly point out the cause of malfunction too.
BEE doesn’t give energy rating for side-by-side refrigerator. However, considering that it uses an advanced Inverter Linear Compressor, the energy efficiency is expected to be optimal.
The drawbacks are that the exteriors are susceptible to scratches. A number of cases of damages in transit is also reported. But the product per-se seems alright.
Samsung 700 L Inverter Frost Free Side-by-Side Refrigerator (RS72R5001M9TL, Gentle Silver Matt, SpaceMax Technology)
- Competitive pricing
- Excellent cooling efficiency
- User-friendly settings
- Shelves not height adjustable
- Might not be good for a tight fitting space.
This Samsung RS72R5001M9TL is larger than the previous LG refrigerator. Yet it is priced lesser.
The refrigerator uses a Digital Inverter Compressor for better cooling efficiency. While the former LG refrigerator had a panel on the front door, in Samsung, you have it on the inside, but in front-right of the shelves. Using the panel, you can set the temperature, invoke power cool functions, child lock and vacation modes. The door alarm sign is also shown on it.
As mentioned, this Samsung SpaceMax refrigerator has a slightly larger capacity of 700 litres, with the fridge having 431-litre space and the freezer having 269-litre capacity.
The main shelves are more or less the same. But a notable difference is that in the door, there is a shelf at the bottom. So, to pull out the vegetable box or the meat box at the bottom, you will have to open the doors more than 90 degree. This might be a point you want to note if you have a modular kitchen or a tight space to fit.
A positive about the interiors of this Samsung refrigerator is that the ice box is moveable. And a main drawback is that its shelves are not height adjustable, whereas, the top shelves of the former LG side by side refrigerator are height adjustable.
- Dual inverter compressor that optimizes energy consumption while enhancing cooling efficiency
- Suits tight-fitting space.
- Occasional complaints about damaged product being delivered.
Haier HRF-619SS has quite less capacity compared to the former two options and obviously, it is priced lesser too.
The refrigerator has twin inverter technology, which Haier claims is highly efficient in terms of cooling and energy consumption. The temperature of the compartments can be set using the thin panel along the edge of the front door. User reviews are also positive with respect to the cooling efficiency.
The refrigerator has a gross capacity of 565 litres with fridge having 347 litre and freezer having 218 litre capacity.
Haier claims that it has the best fridge to freezer ratio compared to other side-by-side refrigerators. But this is incorrect. The fridge to freezer ratio of this refrigerator is 61:39, while that of the former Samsung and LG side by side refrigerators are also the same. In fact, most of the side-by-side refrigerators in the market have a similar fridge to freezer ratio.
The interiors are more or less the same as the previous two options. The main differences are that its shelves are all height adjustable. Then, it doesn’t have door shelves at the bottom, thus opening the door at 90 degrees is sufficient to pull out the vegetable drawer.
As mentioned, BEE doesn’t give an energy rating for side by side refrigerators. But, Haier claims that the refrigerator consumes less than 1 unit of electricity per day.
With that we come to the end of our list of best refrigerators in India. Next, we talk about the detailed buyers guide that will help you decide how to choose a refrigerator.
How To Choose A Refrigerator?
Let us now discuss about the important factors to be kept in mind while choosing a refrigerator.
Having a budget to work with is a good starting point when you buy a refrigerator. But be practical too.
A single door refrigerator with around 200 litre capacity for a bachelor or a family of 2-3 members can be bought in the range of Rs. 12-18K.
You can get a decent double door refrigerator with 250-300 litre capacity apt for a nuclear family at Rs. 25-30K. If you need higher capacity or features like convertibility, then you may have to pay extra.
Refrigerators in the range of 350-400 litres can be bought in the price range of Rs. 35-45K
Side by side refrigerators start from around Rs. 50K. But ones from LG and Samsung which use robust technology start from Rs. 70K.
In India, refrigerators are predominantly available as single door, double door and side-by-side refrigerators. Let us look at the pros and cons of each.
Single Door Refrigerators
They are apt for families with 2-3 members. Even then, if you store a lot of frozen food ( fish, meat, ice cream etc.) then it is better to opt for a double door refrigerator that has higher freezer capacity. They have capacity less than 250-270 litres. But predominantly, it is available in 190-195 litre range.
- Lesser energy consumption
- Less freezer space
- Have to defrost at regular intervals.
Double Door Refrigerators
They are apt for nuclear and joint families. Double door refrigerators are available with a plethora of features and a wide range of capacity from 250-700 litres. They are equipped with frost-free technology. So, they don’t have to be defrosted.
In this segment, two formats are available- bottom-mounted (BMR) and top-mounted refrigerator (signifying the position of the freezer). It is advised to opt for top-mounted refrigerators as they are more energy-efficient. In BMR, the freezer lies in close proximity to the compressor. The heat generated by the compressor affects the freezer temperature, which in turn signals the compressor to work harder, thus increasing the energy consumption.
- Versatile and available with different features to suit every need
- No need to defrost
- Available in a wide range of capacity
- Expensive than single door refrigerators
Side-By-Side Door Refrigerators are larger in size with a capacity between 500L and 900L, making them suitable for large families. These types of refrigerators have advanced features. Many of the higher-end models even have in-built water and ice dispenser.
It is recommended that you thoroughly analyse your needs before you buy a side-by-side refrigerator because it usually has a large freezer space ( around 40% of the total capacity). Many Indian families do not need such a large freezer capacity and would be better off with a large double door refrigerator.
- Advanced cooling efficiency
- Large capacity
- Easy access to everything stored in it.
- Such a large freezer may not be a necessity for most families.
- The width of the fridge compartment is less.
French Door Refrigerators
French door refrigerators have the fridge at the top and it has two door access split in the middle. The freezer is at the bottom.
- Excellent cooling efficiency
- Have many sophisticated features
- Wider fridge shelves unlike side-by-side refrigerators
- Very expensive
- High energy consumption.
Once you decide the format of the fridge, next you have to finalize on the capacity that you need. As mentioned in the beginning of the article, consider the present size of your refrigerator as a starting point and factor in your present and future needs to identify what you would need.
The table below will give a rough idea of the capacity needed with respect to the number of family members.
Size and Scale
We are not talking about capacity. But rather the dimensions and their implications. You must measure the size where you intend to keep the refrigerator and ensure that the dimensions of the refrigerator matches. Also, measure the door dimensions to ensure sufficient door clearance- especially when you buy a refrigerator with a large capacity.
Bureau of Energy Efficiency awards energy rating to single and double door refrigerators sold in India. Higher the rating, lower the power consumption.
While checking the energy rating, ensure that it is valid for the current year. A 4-star refrigerator in 2020 will have a 5-star rating in 2019.
But don’t stop with just the energy rating. Rather, check the annual energy consumption that is mentioned on the BEE label so that you have a more accurate comparison. Sometimes the difference in energy consumption between a 4 and 5 star refrigerator won’t justify the high price tag that the latter command.
Conventionally, refrigerators used reciprocatory compressors. These compressors works at a fixed speed to cool down the refrigerator. When the sensor detects that the preset temperature has reached, it signals the compressor to stop working. Then, when the temperature increases to a certain level, the sensors signal it to start running again. The advantage of a reciprocatory compressor is the low price. But the disadvantages outweigh. They aren’t very durable, have higher energy consumption and the temperature in the compartment keeps varying- which isn’t ideal for preserving the food for longer.
Inverter compressors run at a varying speed which increases cooling when a loss of cooling is detected by the system. It never stops working like a reciprocatory compressor. Rather, it increases the speed when a fall in temperature is detected and then when the preset temperature is attained, it runs at a slow speed to maintain that temperature. Though they cost higher, they are durable, more energy-efficient and have better cooling efficiency.
Nowadays, most of the high-quality refrigerators in India utilize an inverter compressor. They go by different names. While LG calls it a Smart Inverter Compressor, Samsung calls it a Digital Inverter Compressor. Whirlpool calls it Intellisense Inverter Technology and so on. Essentially, its function is all the same.
If you would like to know more about compressors, check out our article here.
A good refrigerator should have not just superior cooling, but also the ability to provide an optimally humid environment for fresh fruits and vegetables. Brands go about with this in different ways.
LG and Whirlpool provides vegetable crisper with moisture control vents and lattice shaped embossing on the lid. The moisture control vent can be open or shut to decrease or increase moisture respectively. The lattice shaped lid captures the excess moisture that evaporates from the veggies and then when the environment becomes dry, it reintroduces it back.
Samsung 5-in-1 refrigerators on the other hand use dual evaporators which provide independent cooling to the fridge and freezer compartment. The air in the fridge as a whole has higher moisture content, thus creating an optimal environment for preserving fresh produces.
Convertible refrigerators are in demand these days. While Samsung refrigerators offer 3-in-1 and 5-in-1 convertibility, other brands don’t have that much versatility.
In Samsung 5-in-1 refrigerators, you can put each of the compartments idle and also convert the freezer to fridge. But in LG dual fridge and convertible refrigerators from Whirlpool, all you can do is put the freezer on idle or convert it to a fridge. There isn’t much versatility or flexibility in terms of space usage.
So, if you want limited convertibility, then it is better to opt for LG. The compressors used in LG Dual fridges are quite superior in terms of cooling, energy consumption and durability. But if you need a full fledged convertible refrigerator with bonus advantage of dual evaporator, then opt for a Samsung convertible refrigerator.
Refrigerators available in India have variety of features that are focussed on keeping food fresher. Some of them are-
Deodorizer- which is essentially activated carbon that captures bad odour
Oxidizer/ Ethylene capturing filters- which captures ethylene- the fruit ripening hormone to prolong the life of fruits and vegetables.
Antibacterial filter or coatings- to prevent proliferation of bacteria.
These are all features that are good to have. But not of prime importance. If the refrigerator has a good inverter compressor and a humidity controlling feature, then that is enough to keep vegetables stay fresh. As for odour, keeping a lid over the cooked food ( doesn’t even have to be airtight) and cleaning the fridge at a regular interval is more than enough. None of the refrigerators sold these days are so bad that odour mixing happens within a compartment.
Smart features are good to have. But needn’t really be worth the extra money spent. In India, smart features in appliances have limited functions like changing settings, putting on different modes etc using your mobile phone. But considering the high cost, it isn’t really prudent to by an appliance just for its smart features.
Samsung Convertible refrigerators are ideal for non-vegetarians. This is because there are two evaporator coils in it and air that is circulated in the freezer doesn’t get circulated to the fridge. This not only keeps food fresher for longer but also prevents odour mixing.
Double door refrigerators have a fridge to freezer ratio in the range of 70-30 to 75-25. This range varies between the different models of the same brand. Hence, we can’t say that a specific brand has a better fridge to freezer ratio.
Side by side refrigerators on the other hand, have a fridge to freezer ratio of 60:40.
LG and Samsung are some of the best refrigerator brands in India. Their products use robust technology that ensures optimal cooling and high energy efficiency. They are also quite durable.
Ideally, you should choose a refrigerator with an inverter compressor. Different brands give different names like Digital Inverter Compressor, Smart Inverter Compressor, Intellisense inverter compressor etc, but in essence, their functions are the same.
Inverter compressors are better than reciprocatory compressors because they have better energy and cooling efficiency. The temperature inside a refrigerator with an inverter compressor doesn’t vary much, which in turn helps keep food last longer.
